Mysterious Underwater Circles

In 1995 a scuba diver - Yoji Ookata, spotted some diameter patterned sand circles while diving off the coast of Japan. They were nearly six feet in diameter and almost 80 feet below the sea level. At first no one knew how did they forme there but some people thought that it was created by UFO. Of course after some time scientists decided to take a look at it and they found out that the culprit was completely different than everyone expected. It was a five inches long female puffer fish, which was creating the pattern during its mating ritual ass a way to protect its eggs, but also to attract the pertner by carving the circular ridges with its thin, flapping fin because apparently male puffer fishes are attracted by the grooves and ridges.

  1. It's amazing that the pattern can be so regular! As if the fish had a sensitive measuring device to design it with.
